A Deanery is made up of a group of parishes or benefices within a geographical area. Axbridge Deanery is one of 19 deaneries in the Diocese of Bath and Wells. You can find more information about the area covered here.
At its best, the Deanery helps to support and encourage the churches who may feel a bit isolated on their own. The Rural or Area Dean is there to help communication flow well and to help churches to look for opportunities to work and share together in mission and ministry.
Clergy in a Deanery will meet regularly at Deanery Chapter meetings.
Both ordained a lay members of churches meet together regularly at Deanery Synod meetings.
The Deanery also has a Deanery Mission and Pastoral Group which works in relationship with the Deanery Synod.
